The AVLIC Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Professional Conduct was developed by a community-based consultation model where members had input. The purpose of the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Professional Conduct is to provide guidance for interpreters, and in so doing, to ensure quality of service for all persons involved. Adherence to the following tenets is essential for maintaining national standards; professional discretion must be exercised at all times. Only members of AVLIC uphold the values of the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Professional Conduct.
