General Information

The AVLIC subscription year is from April 1st to March 31st annually.  New subscriptions can be processed at any time of the year, but there are no pro-rated fees (full year's fees are due regardless of the join date) and subscriptions must be renewed by the next March 31st. (For example: if an application is processed on September 1, 2017, the full year's fees are owing and the subscription would need to be renewed by March 31, 2018 for the 2018-2019 membership year.)

 

While AVLIC membership is reserved for working interpreters and students training to become interpreters, we do offer a subscription service so that others (i.e. employers of interpreters, agencies, Deaf community members, interpreter education program coordinators etc.) can receive announcements and current information about the Association and the profession.

Benefits Given to a Subscriber

Summary list of benefits afforded to Active & Student members and to subscribers. Benefits given to subscribers include:

  • Inclusion on the AVLIC & Affiliate Chapter(s) e-mail distribution lists
  • Invitation to attend AVLIC & Affiliate Chapter(s) meetings as a guest (no voting rights)
  • Serve on an AVLIC committee. Affiliate Chapter(s) may also allow subscribers to serve on a committee; contact chapter for details.
  • Access to the AVLIC members only section of website

Membership Benefits Not Given to a Subscriber

People actively working in the interpreting field who do not meet the AVLIC membership criteria (as an Active or Student member) are not able to become a subscriber. The subscription service is intended for non-interpreters wanting to be on AVLIC & Affiliate Chapter e-mail distribution lists to stay current about the associations and the profession.

Cost to Subscribe

Subscription service is a dual service, and as such AVLIC and at least 1 Affiliate Chapter must be chosen (AVLIC-only subscription service is not available).

Payment Options

AVLIC accepts payment for subscription fees in the following ways:

  • Online payment using a major credit card (subscriber enters in credit card information)
  • Online payment using a PayPal account (subscriber enters in credit card information)
  • Manual processing of a major credit card (AVLIC enters in the credit card information)
  • Cheque (in Canadian funds. All cheques are made payable to AVLIC and we forward along the Affiliate Chapter's portion in a separate transaction.)
  • E-transfer or money transfer (contact the AVLIC treasurer and administrative assistant for details)

Lapsed or Expired Subscriptions

Subscriptions are not subject to the late renewal fee applied to lapsed or expired memberships. The late fee only applies to Active and Student memberships, not to the subscription service. However, if a subscription service does lapse or expire, the subscriber should contact the AVLIC office to have the former account profile reactivated.
