CASLI (AVLIC) Vision Statement
The Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (formerly known the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada) and its members uphold the highest standards of professional integrity, competence and ethics.
CASLI (AVLIC) Mission Statement
The mission of the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (formerly known as the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada is to advance the profession of interpreting and to support its members by:
- Serving as the national representative for professional interpreters in Canada
- Working in close partnership with Canadian Deaf organizations for the future benefit of Canadian Deaf people who use Sign Languages and the profession of interpreters whose working languages include a Sign Language
- Supporting the efforts of Affiliate Chapters to advance the profession of interpreting in their regions
- Supporting and collaborating with programs designed to facilitate the education and training of interpreters
- Providing professional development and a national forum for discussion of issues pertinent to the field of interpreting
- Upholding and promoting the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Professional Conduct
- Providing and promoting the Canadian Evaluation System
- Providing and promoting the Professional Conduct Review Process (formerly known as the Dispute Resolution Process) for CASLI (AVLIC) members and the individuals they serve.
CASLI (AVLIC) Core Value Statement
The Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (formerly known as the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada) believes that people have the right to interpreters who are professional, competent and ethical.
CASLI (AVLIC) is guided in all its activities by the beliefs that:
- Collaboration, cooperation and mutual, transparent communication between the Deaf community and Sign Language interpreters at a local, regional and national level across Canada are essential
- The Association and its members will work with each other collegially, respectfully and with professional integrity
- The Association will be responsive to its members.

CASLI (AVLIC) Bylaws - effective July 14, 2018
Certificate of Continuance - issued by Corporations Canada (Industry Canada)
CASLI (AVLIC) bylaws were revised and ratified by membership, in order to meet the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act, at the June 22, 2013 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Toronto, Ontario. The bylaws were formally recognized by Corporations Canada (Industry Canada) on July 10, 2013. Further updates to the bylaws were ratified by membership on the following dates have been filed with Corporations Canada (Industry Canada)

Joint Communication Team (JCT)
On July 6, 2010, the presidents representing the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf (CCSD), the Canadian Association of the Deaf/Association des Sourds du Canada (CAD-ASC) and the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters - CASLI (formerly known as the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada - AVLIC) signed a Joint Statement solidifying their agreement to work in close partnership for the future benefit of Canadian Deaf people who use Sign Languages and professional interpreters whose working languages include a Sign Language.
Representatives from the three associations meet in person at each AVLIC conference and have begun to schedule in-person meetings on an annual basis (non-conference years) where possible. On a variety of matters, the association presidents also keep in contact via e-mail or video chat to ensure open and timely communication is achieved.

Memorandum of Understanding
On July 13, 2016, the presidents and vice presidents representing the Association québécoise des interprètes en languages des signed (AQILS) and the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters - CASLI (formerly known as the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada - AVLIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding solidifying their agreement to work in close partnership for the future benefit of sign language interpreters throughout Canada.
Representatives from the two associations met in person at the AVLIC 2016 conference and have begun to schedule in-person meetings on an annual basis (non-conference years) where possible. On a variety of matters, the association presidents and board designates also keep in contact via e-mail or video chat to ensure open and timely communication is achieved.
