CRTC Speech at AVLIC 2014

Speech by Peter Menzies to Delegates at AVLIC 2014

AVLIC was thrilled when Peter Menzies, Vice-Chairman of Telecommunication Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) accepted our invitation to the AVLIC 2014 conference. Mr. Menzies was able to attend on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 for some of the day’s events, including:

  • The Joint Communication Team (JCT) meeting between representatives of the Canadian Association of the Deaf (CAD), the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf (CCSD) and AVLIC;
  • The luncheon where he gave the speech detailed below;
  • And the Special Interest Group (SIG) on VRS in Canada.

As members and community stakeholders may recall, Mr. Menzies was the chairperson overseeing the VRS in Canada hearing commissioned by the CRTC in October 2013. Mr. Menzies continues to be involved with Telecom Regulatory Policy CRTC 2014-187 implementation.

As a result of his lengthy involvement and in-depth knowledge of the issues related to VRS in Canada, AVLIC was delighted Mr. Menzies was able to be the guest speaker during the July 9, 2014 luncheon. Below is a transcript of Mr. Menzies' speech:
