Douglas College, Program of Sign Language Interpretation

Dear WAVLI and CASLI members,

We are writing to let you know the Program of Sign Language Interpretation at Douglas College will not be admitting new students for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Due to the low number of students currently attending the prerequisite program at Vancouver Community College, we will not have enough eligible students next year to run first-year classes in Sign Language Interpreting.  We fully anticipate completing a regular intake the following year.

Students who are currently enrolled in the program will be able to continue, and we will run a full range of second-year classes for them in the 2019-2020 year.

If you have any questions, please direct them to Dr. Karla Gronsdahl, Dean of Child, Family and Community Studies at gronsdahlk@douglascollege.ca or 604-527-5137.

Thank you for your continued support of the Sign Language Interpreting Program.

Hello WAVLI AND CASLI members,

While the dean’s message sent here may come as a surprise, we see the pause in student intake as an opportunity for positive change stemming from the recent internal program review.

We want you to know that the INTR faculty is confident that current students will receive the same rich learning experiences we already envisioned for them. We will have students graduating in 2019, 2020, 2022 and beyond.

Click the link below to see the dean’s message in ASL, which will also be distributed through the DeafBC website.
